Located in the heart of the city of Richmond, section and neighborhood of West Cary Street has more than 100 facilities for shopping, dining, and entertainment

Downtown Richmond has much to offer the visitor looking for trendy stores or exceptional dining, especially on Cary Street, spanning from the Thompson Street intersection to the Boulevard. The district can be characterized as historic, eccentric, and unique. Not only is it a highlight for the tourist, but a hot spot for residents of Richmond.

Shopping is one of the biggest draws to Carytown. Some of the best and finest clothing can be found in the stores in this district. At Lex's of Richmond one can find countless beautiful dresses for any event from everyday wear to prom attire to bridesmaid gowns. They even have a registry for prom dresses so that no two girls from one school can buy the same dress for the same occasion! Another chic store not to miss for the ladies is Pink. The latest fashions can be found here along with accessories and handbags. For the denim wearer, Need Supply Co. has brand new and vintage duds. This store specializes in it, and also offers contemporary and "street-smart" wear. Other stores not to miss are Bygones, the spot for vintage clothing, It's Hip to be Round for the future mamas, and Clementine, a hot little consignment shop.

Those looking for entertainment will not be disappointed, as there are plenty of places for fun to be had. Carytown's biggest attraction is the Byrd Theatre, which is also an historical landmark. Shows are $1.99 per person and the movies are second-run. Saturday night shows are even preceded with a performance on the Wurlitzer organ, which has been in operation since the theater opened in 1928. Also in Carytown is World of Mirth, a self-proclaimed toy store for children of all ages. A fun, image-distorting mirror that belongs in a fun house sets outside the doors of the lively and exciting store that is filled with books, toys, games, and novelties. More places to have fun include Creatures 'n Crooks Bookshoppe, a bookstore that specializes in science fiction, mystery, and the like, as well as All Fired Up, a ceramics studio with do-it-yourself painting and decorating.

After all the shopping and fun, eating is another delight to be experienced in Carytown. One of the best and most talked about restaurants is Carytown Burgers and Fries. Specializing in fresh, original burgers, their menu has plenty of tasty options. Everything is made to order and there are even options for vegetarians and picky eaters. Other locally owned establishments for good eats include Mrs. Marshall's Carytown Cafe, which specializes in homemade salads and box lunches, and Weezie's Kitchen, an original diner that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For international cuisine, there are options for Thai food: Thai Diner Too, Japanese: Moshi Moshi, and French: Can Can Brasserie and One North Belmont. For dessert there is Ben and Jerry's or Bev's Ice Cream. Other great spots are Cookies by Design, for personalized sweets, and New York Deli, which is open late and offers a night life atmosphere.

This is only a highlight of the great shops and businesses to be discovered in Carytown. There are various salon and spas, and fitness retailers. For the pet-concerned individual, there is a veterinary hospital, an emergency veterinary center, and pet store. There are even numerous banks, a law office, UPS store, and camera store. Be sure not to leave Richmond without checking out the amazing

establishments Carytown has to offer!
