Are you looking for a place to take the kids on New YEar's Eve to celebrate? See what's happening around Virginia in 2007.

There are plenty of activities in the Virginia area to keep you and your kids busy this New Year’s Eve. Many families enjoy getting out of the house together and you can rest assured that all of the following activities are not only entertaining but they are family-friendly and safe as well. Here is a look at just some of the few New Year’s Eve events happening in Virginia.

Places in Northern Virginia

Warrenton: The Warrenton First Night is a perfect activity to bring the whole family to ring in the New Year. Gather on the Main Street on December 31 and enjoy a wide variety of arts including music of all genres, lively storytelling, theater productions, and puppet show. Make your way to the Courthouse near midnight and celebrate the New Year with a candlelit gathering. This is an annual event and the festivities will begin at 7 p.m. Admission is free for the entire family.

Fredericksburg: Beginning on New Year’s Eve at 6 p.m. is the family friendly First Night Fredericksburg. This event is also an annual event with no admission charge. While you are here with the family, take part in a non-alcoholic celebration in the Old Town Fredericksburg. There will be more than twenty area businesses that will host many performing arts and visual arts presentation including dance, comedy, music, and children’s activities.

In the Shenandoah Valley

Harrisonburg: On the night of New Year’s Eve, come and gather at the First Night Harrisonburg for festivities including plenty of entertainment and an impressive fireworks demonstration right at midnight. Activities start right at 6 p.m. and will include street performances by magicians and others, and parades. Admission is $9 per person at the door.

Winchester: The First Night Winchester begins in Old Town Winchester at 6 p.m. The festivities for the night include over 50 different performers bringing 35 shows including music, dance and more. If you are interested in this family friendly, and non-alcoholic event, then you can get a discount price of $8 by buying your tickets in advance. Ticket prices at the door are $12.

In Hampton Roads

Williamsburg: The Colonial Williamsburg Historic Area brings the annual Kid’s Holiday Weekend beginning Saturday, December 8 and running each weekend through December 30. This event is open to children and their families and has no admission fee. This is the place to go with your children to experience a historic New Year’s Eve celebration. Children can get a first hand look at how the colonists celebrated Christmas, too. There will be costumed guides on hand to help you explore the area. Also in Williamsburg is the First Night of Williamsburg featuring a wide variety of entertainment options for children and families. Taking place in Merchant’s Square, enjoy a non-alcoholic celebration including performing arts, storytelling, a big band, jugglers, clowns and puppets. There is something for everyone at this event!

Virginia Beach: If your little ones just can’t stay up until midnight, then beginning on New Year’s Eve at 11 a.m. and running through 1 p.m., bring the kids to the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center is a celebration with Radio Disney complete with activities, games to entertain everyone and non-alcoholic beverages. Ticket prices range from $7.95 to $11.95.
